News from the Board of Benevolence …

Updates:

Five women from our congregation attended the Amazing Women Conference of Faith in Rochester June 2nd, joining thousands of women from western New York, Canada, and other parts of the United States to worship God together. We laughed, we cried, we sang, and we listened to stories. What a glorious affirmation of faith!

Women of the congregation, please save the first Saturday in June, 2008 so that you, too, may enjoy the fellowship offered by this conference. Five of us will be returning!

More than 150 people joined us for brunch on Sunday, June 3rd to help support our youth program! Master chefs Bob Blake, Steve Myer, and Steve Perkins cooked a variety of delicious foods. Thank you to all of you who provided sweet breads, rolls, and other sweet things and to all who set-up, worked in the kitchen, waited tables, ran errands, filled the coffee pots, cleaned up, etc. It was definitely a successful event raising approximately $675.00.

More than a dozen women showered grateful and appreciative Lori (Mom) and Isis (5 year old Starburst student) Allbright, our adopted family, with baby supplies and other goodies on Saturday, June 9th. Dad Andrew is currently training in Colorado as he prepares for his deployment with the National Guard to Afghanistan. He is the crew leader on a Chinook helicopter. The entire family is hoping that Andrew will be able to attend the birth of their son before he leaves the United States.

Please keep this family in your prayers.

35 colorful quilts made by members of the Sewing Circle adorned

the sanctuary on Sunday, June 10th when Reverend Kim Cran

dedicated their use as care quilts for needy children in Wyoming

County. The Sewing Circle will go back to work in the fall when

we hope others will join our efforts.

The Board of Benevolence believes in the old adage “waste not, want not,” so that became the excuse for the Father’s Day Luncheon when we served another delicious meal to more than 75 members of our congregation. Besides celebrating fathers, we also celebrated chief cook Bob Blake’s 49th birthday with a rousing singing of “Happy Birthday.” Bob was dressed for the occasion in a lovely pink hat (he’s not old enough for a red hat yet) and skirt, much to everyone’s delight. Helping Bob (aka Bobbette) in the kitchen was Steve Meyer (aka Stephanie), and Dick Neeley (aka Danielle).

Again, we showed how well our congregation works as a team! Set-up Saturday night was completed in less than a half hour, and on Sunday, the Fellowship Hall was back in tip-top shape by 12:30 because of all the willing hands who contributed to the work done. Thank you to those who so willingly give of their time!

Women’s Guild News

After worship on Sunday, May 6, 2007, the Women’s Guild met in the rear of the sanctuary for an informal meeting. Good attendance constituted a definite quorum. The following questions were discussed:

1.) Irma Hurst, treasurer, announced proceeds from the rummage sale of $878.21. Nora Fisher and her family plus a few others were fine workers to accomplish this. It was discussed that members of the Guild no longer are able to provide sufficient work support for this fund raiser. There was total agreement.

2.) Irma asked for instruction on dispensing funds. It was decided that the Guild will turn over $5000 to the Board of Trustees for emergency use. It was noted to close out the savings account and pay United Church of Christ and Presbyterian mission money for 2007. The checking account will remain in existence. By a unanimous show of hands this passed.

The meeting adjourned with the warm support of all attending. While the Womens’ Guild remains an entity, the group feels these moves support the United Church of Warsaw in a strong position.

Riding for Roswell

Once again, I am Riding for Roswell! The Ride helps fund many of the new advances in cancer treatment. I will be doing the 20 mile ride on June 23rd to raise money for patient care and cancer research. I am hoping to improve on my record last year by raising at least $2000. Last year the Ride raised over

$1 million. With your help, we can beat cancer!

If you would like to help me raise money for Roswell Park, you can donate by either sending me a check made out to the Ride for Roswell to my home address (21 Rochester St., Warsaw) or giving online at www.rideforroswell.org using your credit card.

Thank you, Lynn Saxton
