Thoughts From Kim

As I write this, the last gasps of the ‘chookit storm’ are passing – the March storm that brings gales, arctic cold and snow to cover the beautiful spring flowers that woke early from their slumber. The snowdrops were up very early this year, followed by crocuses and the beautiful yellow daffodils. And they are now all wearing white coats – a Scottish garden dressed in WNY clothing!

But this storm will pass and in a few days not only will the flowers recover, but also more blossoms will follow – the tulips will poke up from the ground and fruit trees will burst into bloom. Spring always returns in that reassuring cycle of rebirth that follows the dark, cold nights of winter.

For us in the church, this season marks another rebirth as we celebrate one of our greatest festivals – Easter. Just as creation sings its song of new life with the arrival of spring, so the church, through scripture, hymns and the changing of our church seasons reminds us of this important part of our faith – God bring life from death through Christ’s resurrection. We ponder and celebrate this glorious truth – God brings new life from all that feels broken and dead. We are Easter people. Alleluia!

This is a time for new beginnings – and time for the renewal of hope. Spring is here! May the Spirit dance in our hearts as we feel the warmth of the sun – and the Son.

Have a blessed Easter!

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

With love and prayers,

Kim

Starburst News

We welcome SPRING – warmer days, outside playtime, Easter celebrations, and hatching our annual brood of chicks.

And, as we say hello to Spring, we also say goodbye to a dear friend, colleague, and pillar of the Starburst Program, Mrs. Nan Millen.

Nan was a teacher assistant at Starburst for the last ten years up to the last week before she went home to be with the Lord. Her warm demeanor and steadfast determination serve as examples to each of us in our own lives. It was my honor and joy to work with Nan. I will miss laughing with her – and if you’ve ever worked with a bunch of preschoolers you know there are many opportunities for silliness and fun.

And, I will miss sharing with her. She had a big heart and was always ready to give of herself when someone else had a need.

Her faith was strong and deliberate and her love for God and children was immeasurable.

We thank God for Mrs. Millen. Larene

Youth Advisory Committee

The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) met Tues., March 20th to begin planning the re-organization of the youth group at Warsaw UCC. It was decided that the Advisory Committee would consist of a group of adults who will assist in guiding the youth in grades 6-12 in their planning of events. The objectives set forth for the youth group were:

  • Develop a moral compass
  • Participate in mission work within the church and community
  • Increase knowledge of the bible and church
  • Develop social skills with fellow members
  • HAVE FUN!!

The next meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee will be held at the church Monday, April 23rd at 7 pm. This committee is still in the organizational phase and is looking for more volunteers and ideas. Please feel free to attend.

YOUTH: Please note: The first youth group meeting will be held some time in May. Watch the newsletter or listen for an announcement in church. Also, spread the word – this group is open to all youth in the community, grades 6-12.

Any questions see: Kathy Humphrey, Shirley Cummins, Donna Mager, Cathie Murdie, Lynn Saxton, Debbie Baker, Jim Carter or Ted LaWall.
