Natural Church Development

Jimmy Reader works as a coach and consultant with several churches using the process and resources of Natural Church Development, an international organization working with over 40,000 churches around the world. The goal of Natural Church Development (NCD) is to help churches be healthy, growing churches.

The Session of the United Church has asked Jimmy to help this church begin the process in January and February. The first step is for 30 members to complete a survey, which they will do on Sunday, January 7, following the worship service. The second step will be a training session for a leadership group and for anyone interested in learning more about the principles and process of NCD. The tentative date for that all-day workshop is Saturday, February 10. If you are interested in attending—or interested in being part of the leadership group—please contact Jimmy.

Long-Range Planning

One decision made at the December joint board meeting was to establish a long-range planning group to look at 5-year plans for maintenance of our historic buildings. Trustees and elders will form a group to recommend a strategy for what needs to be done and how to raise the needed funds to ensure the buildings continue to be attractive and in good repair for many years to come. Please contact Steve Perkins if you have suggestions for the group.

A New Face in the Office

If you’ve been in the church office lately, you may have seen a new face there. Mike Murdie has volunteered to enter a huge amount of information about the members and friends of our church into our new database. Once the information is in the system, we will be able to manage all of our financial and membership information more efficiently. The Session just approved appointing Mike Murdie as our assistant financial secretary so that he will share with Kevin Miller the responsibilities of tracking everyone’s contributions and pledges.
